Structural Engineering
Structural engineering design, alterations and inspections
Structural Engineering
Our structural design capability includes experience in the design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, structural timber and composite material structures and ranges from foundation design, to large, complex structures and multi-level building frames.
The structures team supports many of Nurizon’s market sectors – from a portal frame for a commercial warehouse development, to the design of a mine haul route bridge for haulage and earthmoving equipment, or a functional roof structure for an airport’s fuel farm tanker loading facility. Our team uses 3D modelling and structural analysis software to provide efficient and reliable design solutions for client projects. Personnel are also highly-skilled in the use of 3D modelling and visualisation software to quickly contextualise design concepts for clients.
In addition our structures team can also assist clients and contractors with 4D studies (time-lapse) to assist with constructability and facilitate project planning.
Our project portfolio showcases our varied structural engineering projects to-date.

OR Tambo Fuel Farm Upgrade
Project:
Fuel Farm Upgrade & Rehabilitation: Infrastructure Detail Design
Aurecon, together with Nurizon, was tasked to evaluate aircraft runway and taxiway holding positions at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) and to propose amendments and improvements to ensure that all positions were compliant in terms of the latest ICAO standards and recommendations.

Evergreens Fresh Produce Market, Gauteng
Project:
Shopping Development: Detail Structural and Civil Engineering Design
Nurizon was appointed to undertake the structural and civil engineering detail design elements of a new fresh produce market development for Evergreens in Kempton Park, Gauteng (property development by Triple J).
The professional services appointment included the bulk services designs, stormwater attenuation infrastructure design, site earthworks and geometric planning and design of the site (earthworks platform
profiling, roads geometry etc.); pavement designs for the internal roads and parking areas; and the structural engineering design for the market building structure itself.
Also part of the appointment was the geotechnical
investigations and dolomitic stability evaluation. The investigations consisted of the following elements:
• Desk study – previous investigations undertaken;
• Rotary core drilling;
• Borehole profiling;
• Test pit profiling and sampling;
• Laboratory testing;
• Analysis;
• Foundation design; and
• Dolomitic Stability Evaluation.

Forensic Engineering Assessments, South Africa
Project:
Forensic Infrastructure Assessments: Civil and Structural
The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) has a mandate to manage structural defect risks in the home building industry so as to protect industry consumers. The NHBRC implements a warranty scheme which safeguards the Council from gratuitous claims.

Christodoulou Estate Development, Gauteng
Project:
Luxury Housing Development: Detail Structural and Civils Design
Nurizon was appointed to undertake the structural and civils detail design for a luxury, 5-unit housing development in the Waterkloof Ridge area of Pretoria. The professional services appointment included the bulk water and wastewater services designs, wet services reticulations, site earthworks design and geometric profiling, pavement design for the internal access roads and structural engineering designs.
